The Old Jail Art Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3)
organization that is a unique treasure of West-Central Texas. The
success of the Old Jail Art Center as a first class museum is attributable
to a long line of patrons, donors and staff who have a commitment to
excellence. In fact, the Old Jail Art Center is one of very few
museums in the state of Texas that have been accredited by the American
Association of Museum.
The
broad vision of the Old Jail Art Center is to enhance the
lives of area residents and visitors by providing art for all.
With this vision in mind the Old Jail Art Center partners with area
public schools to providing art education to children of all ages.
Further, the founders of the Old Jail Art Center have kept admission free to
the public.
The Old Jail Art Center's annual operational expenses
exceed $400,000. Less than half of these operating expenses are
covered by an endowment fund. Additional funding to meet its operational expenses is derived
from four main sources: Donations, Grants, Fund Raisers and
Memberships. Therefore, we greatly appreciate and need the support of
individuals and organizations.
Membership:
Memberships are inexpensive, but valuable:
$12.50 (Associate); $25.00 (Member); $50.00
(Contributor). Memberships include invitations to exhibition previews and special
membership events, advanced notification of special programs and lectures, newsletter, and
10% discount on Museum Shop Merchandise. To become a member,
please call

welcome!
Donations:
The Old Jail Art Center has received many gracious donations of art, time,
talent and funds over the years. Many donations have come in the form
of bequests from estates. In fact, over 98% of the permanent art
collection has come to the Old Jail Art Center from donations and/or
bequests. The Old Jail Art Center greatly appreciates these contributions. Please consider supporting the Old Jail Art
Center this year with a donation.
Bequests: It is simple to leave a bequest to
the Old Jail Art Center. Just include the Old Jail Art Center in your
will or designate the Old Jail Art Center as a beneficiary of your IRA or
insurance policies. Call our director, Margaret Blagg, at (325)
762-2269 for a confidential discussion about your charitable intentions
and/or specific needs at the Old Jail Art Center that you would like to
support.
The following legal wording is suggested for use in a will:
"I give, devise and bequeath the following _______________________
(describe the assets which are the subject of the bequest; for example, a
stated sum or the residue of the estate or a percentage of the residue of
the estate) to the Old Jail Art Center in Albany, Texas, a Texas
nonprofit corporation."
Docent Program: (See also
Volunteering)
Docents are a group of volunteers that enhance the experience of visitors by
guiding tours of the museum and assisting with different functions and fund
raisers. Being a docent is a great way to contribute your time and
talent to the museum. If you are interested in being a docent,
please call or stop by the Old Jail Art Center today.
Fund Raisers:
The Old Jail Art Center has two annual fund raisers each year: The
Western Swing and the Year End Annual Fund Raising Campaign. The
Western Swing is a wonderfully festive event that usually starts with a talk
by the artist whose work is on display and is followed by a silent auction,
dinner and dance. Its a party that you won't want to miss.
The year end Annual Fund Raising Campaign provides an opportunity for
everyone to contribute to this valuable resource.
Every other year the Old Jail Art Center has an art auction.
Funds raised from the auction are used to support the acquisitions fund and
conservation of the permanent art collection. The 2002 auction
was great fun.
