The Old Jail Art Center offers a variety of fun and informative professional development workshops to aid elementary and secondary teachers in using the Old Jail Art Center collection, programs and media, art and history, to enhance their curricula.

Participants should contact the Region 14 Education Service Center to register for OJAC teachers’ workshops.

Education students and out-of-area teachers not wishing to receive Region-14-certified credit are also welcome to attend OJAC workshops. Please contact the education staff for registration information.

Reading and writing paired with visual arts can open student's imaginations to new worlds of creative thinking and memory. This session will bridge the gap between the subjects by showing innovative and fun ways to bring art into the reading and language arts classrooms. Expect a lot of handouts of activities and hands-on projects.

Unearthing Treasures of the Past

Bring history alive for your students, from classroom suggestions to a bus ride to relive the Old West. Visit historic sites: Butterfield Stagecoach crossing, Lambshead Ranch, Fort Griffin, old town site of Fort Griffin, and many others. While traveling, you will hear tales of the Old West and Fort Griffin. Plus you'll get a special tour of the county Courthouse. Lunch is provided. Find out about the museum's transportation reimbursement program.
