Art For All

The Art for All Teacher’s Guide is accompanied by 36 large reproductions of works in the permanent collection of the Old Jail Art Center.  Each of the reproductions corresponds to a unit in the Teacher’s Guide.  Each unit contains Information about the artwork, the artist or culture of origin, a timeline, pertinent vocabulary, discussion starters and suggested activities for the primary subject areas, and a sample lesson plan. This content material is provided to enable the teacher to conduct dialogues with students that will allow them to make reasoned interpretations and careful judgments about the artwork.

The program is effective for both individual and group study in classroom situations.  The most effective use of this material would be as an activity before or after a tour of the museum, where students can view the actual works first-hand.

Each ISD in Texas Region IVX has been provided with a copy of the Teacher’s Guide (most are housed in the high school library) for use by all of the ISD’s educators.

Some units from the Teacher’s Guide are currently available online in PDF format:
